People the world over enjoy beer, and it is as much a cultural icon as Apple Pie to America and Precision Engineering to Germany. So what is the great debate over beer this year? Competition classifications. Who is the real King of Beers? Find out. The World Beer Competition has now settled on new classifications of beers, making this years judging process smoother and easier for the judges. In a year of firsts, the WBC has again made modifications that will shape the future of beer championships all over the globe. By streamlining the classifications of beers, the WBC has eliminated several award possibilities and thus created a stronger more aggressive competition in the beer world. For too long larger breweries took advantage of the fact that several classifications were not competitive due to the high cost of equipment and supplies, which excluded many smaller breweries from competing in these rare classifications. After several years of complaints from entrants, the WBC decided to close the loophole and tighten the competition classes. The German Delegate to the World Beer Competition is quoted: “We seek to be the most fair and balanced competition in the beer world, thus we do not wish for breweries to take advantage of rare classifications just to win Platinum Awards.” The new categories have been posted to the International Beer Competition website: www.BeerCompetition.com so that entrants have a chance to review and enter early for the 2006 event, scheduled for Miami, Florida USA this year. Breweries wait anxiously for instructions on entry to the event, as each year’s winners are assured major distribution and accolades in more than 60 international media outlets. These Platinum brands can count on sales increases and multi-national deals to roll in once the event judges them “Best in Show”. No other event in the beverage world comes close to the 10,000 entrants from all over the globe, and most brands know this and use it to their advantage. Mark your calendars, the new King is waiting to be crowned!
